The Upper Dolpo & Phoksundo Lake Trek is one of Nepal’s most remote and mystical trekking adventures, taking trekkers deep into the isolated trans-Himalayan region of Dolpo. Famous for its Tibetan Buddhist culture, rugged landscapes, hidden valleys, ancient monasteries, and pristine alpine lakes, this trek offers a true wilderness expedition experience far from the crowded trekking routes of Nepal. The journey begins with flights from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and onward to Jumla, the gateway to western Nepal’s remote mountain trails. The route gradually ascends through forests, traditional villages, and river valleys before crossing the challenging Kagmara Pass (5115m/16781ft), offering spectacular Himalayan views.Trekkers then descend toward the breathtaking turquoise waters of Phoksundo Lake (3600m/11811ft), Nepal’s deepest and most beautiful alpine lake located inside Shey Phoksundo National Park. A rest day here allows exploration of the lake and nearby Tibetan-influenced villages.
The adventure continues over two major high passes: Baga La (5090m/16700ft) and Numla Pass (5190m/17027ft). These crossings reveal dramatic barren landscapes, glacial valleys, yak pastures, and remote Tibetan-style settlements such as Tarap and Dho.The trek concludes through remote canyons, caves, monasteries, and ancient villages before reaching Juphal for the return flight to Kathmandu. This trek is ideal for experienced trekkers seeking isolation, Tibetan culture, high mountain passes, and one of Nepal’s most untouched Himalayan regions.

Note: The trek can be operated in both teahouses and under the canvas on request, as well as possible to combine with some other activities such as white water rafting & wildlife safari. The itinerary can be customized according to your duration of holiday.
