This unique eight-day journey offers an enriching blend of Nepal’s cultural heart, sacred Himalayan hills and Buddhist pilgrimage sites. From the vibrant streets of Kathmandu valley to the serene hilltop monastery of Namo Buddha, and down into the lowland Terai at Lumbini – birthplace of the Buddha – every step reveals layers of history, meditation and natural beauty. You begin your adventure with a warm welcome in Kathmandu, a city perched at approximately 1 350 metres in the Himalayan mid-hills. Here you’ll relax, absorb the energy of ancient temples, crowded bazaars and lofty Himalayan views, setting the tone for the days ahead. On Day 2 you venture into the hills toward the village of Dhulikhel, then hike for about three hours through farmland, forest and Tamang community settlements until you reach the sacred Namo Buddha monastery, located at around 1 600 metres elevation. Here you will reflect on a powerful legend of self-sacrifice and compassion — Prince Mahasatwo’s offering to a starving tigress — and feel the tranquil energy of the place. The third day brings you deep into Kathmandu’s most treasured heritage sites. At Pashupatinath you will witness Hindu rituals by the river; at Boudhanath the swirling prayer flags and Buddhist chants evoke timeless calm; at Durbar Square, ornate palaces, temples and living goddess Kumari reside in the heart of the old city. Each site has UNESCO status and is foundational to Nepal’s religious and cultural narrative. You then fly south to Bhairahawa and drive to Lumbini, where the monastery-dotted sacred garden and ancient Ashokan pillar mark the birthplace of the Buddha. Quiet walking trails among international monasteries give time for meditation, contemplation and connecting with one of the world’s greatest spiritual legacies. Back in Kathmandu you ascend to the hilltop Kopan Monastery, built in Tibetan tradition, where you may join evening prayers and enjoy sweeping views across the valley. Another day at a Buddhist meditation centre offers guided sessions and talks, deepening your understanding of Tibetan Buddhism while relaxing in nature. Finally, your journey culminates with a smooth airport transfer and departure, leaving you with fresh insight into Nepal’s cultural and spiritual identity. This eight-day itinerary is ideal for travellers who desire a meaningful blend of easy hiking, meditation, cultural discovery and Himalayan vistas — all accessible without strenuous trekking or extreme altitude. From historic Kathmandu to sacred hill-monasteries, from rural trails to pilgrimage gardens, this journey invites you to explore, reflect and unwind in one of the world’s most spiritually rich regions.

Breakfast

After breakfast you’ll meet your local guide and drive toward Dhulikhel, then start a scenic hike of about three hours ascending and descending through terraced farmland and typical Nepali village communities. The highlight arrives at the sacred Namo Buddha Monastery perched high above the valley. According to legend 6,000 years ago Prince Mahasatwo sacrificed his body to a starving tigress and her cubs here, an act of compassion reborn in Buddha’s legacy. 3,500 years later the Buddha himself visited the site, renamed the village Namo Buddha (meaning homage to the Buddha) and a stupa marks the tomb of the prince. Explore the beautifully decorated monastery, enjoy the panoramic mountain views and local peace, then drive back to Kathmandu. Namo Buddha sits at around 1 600m / 5 250ft.
