The Climbing Mt. Cho Oyu (Expedition- Tibet) is one of the most rewarding and strategically structured 8000-meter expeditions in the Himalayas. Cho Oyu, standing at 8201m, is considered the sixth highest mountain in the world and one of the most accessible 8000m peaks, making it ideal for experienced climbers aiming to step into extreme altitude mountaineering.
The journey begins in Kathmandu, followed by a scenic overland drive across the Tibetan plateau through Zhangmu, Nyalam, and Tingri. Careful acclimatization days are built into the itinerary to ensure climbers adapt safely to the increasing altitude. From the Chinese Base Camp, the expedition transitions into full alpine style climbing with yak-supported load carries to Advance Base Camp.
The long climbing period allows flexibility for acclimatization rotations, rest days, and optimal summit weather windows. Climbers establish higher camps progressively before making the final summit push to Mt. Cho Oyu 8201m. After the ascent, the expedition concludes with a safe descent back through Tibet to Kathmandu.
This expedition is designed for serious mountaineers, offering a balance of safety, logistics, and high-altitude challenge in one of the most spectacular mountain regions on Earth.

Your Expedition begins when you arrive in Kathmandu where the staff of Nature Trail Trekking and Expeditions meets you in the airport and transfers you to your hotel. The next day, we will have an introduction section with other climbing members and the expedition crews and finish the last necessary documents for the Everest Expedition.
After day 3, we will drive you towards the Nepal-Tibet border up to Friendship Bridge through Arnico Highway, where the Chinese liaison officer and Chinese transport will meet us. The expedition gear goes by truck while we travel by a 4wd Land cruiser or a comfortable Minibus. We will take time to acclimatize with one night at Zhangmu (2300m) and two nights at Nylam (3750m), which also gives us the chance to trek up high hills for acclimatization.
Next day we drive to Tingri (4350m) where we will spend another two nights acclimatizing. We then proceed from Tingri to the Everest Base camp (5400m), following a rough way with jerking & bouncing through grassy plain ending at Everest Base Camp, which is also called Chinese base camp.
We set up our camp at Chinese Base Camp and stay two nights or more, depending on how everyone feels. We also make the schedules of the yaks by that time. Base camp is a temporary but comfortable affair with Nepali cook and dining tent. Now the two-day walk towards advanced base camp (ABC) begins.
ABC is in the heart of the Himalaya at 5700m; surrounded by celestial peaks. There is also the high pass called Nangpa La nearby which is an ancient, but still used, yak track trading route between Nepal and Tibet. From ABC, we have a superb view on Cho Oyu. ABC is the main base camp and we plan to stay here for the longer duration to look at the favorable situation for the expedition. Every person gets his or her own tent.
From ABC it is several hours of tough walking on a vague path over a moraine-covered glacier to the start of the mountaineering. Camp 1 is either perched more or less on the ridge at 6400m and the real mountaineering starts from here. The ridge is now soft and easy enough for climbing, then it broadens out and we have to climb huge steps, where several probably require fixing a rope up. Although the route is crevassed this normally creates no problems.
Camp 2 is on the edge of a large plateau at 7125m although you will carefully assess where to put the rope. Depending on the conditions and fitness of the team you may attempt to reach the summit from here, or you may establish a light Camp 3 across the plateau and up on a minor ridge at 7550m. Above Camp 3 are two rocky steps where you fix another set of ropes prior to our summit ascent.
Finally, you will start early in the morning from camp 3 for summit. The slopes are still reasonably steep and you may take a line to manage yourself better here, depending on the conditions. However once on the crest of this ridge the terrain is straightforward although it is a long haul to the summit plateau.
The panorama is breathtakingly magnificent, including Everest 8848m, Lhotse 8501m, Nuptse 7855m, Chamlang 7319m, Ama Dablam 6856m and other peaks of the Everest region to the east and south. To the west are the Melungtse and Gauri Sankar massifs and to the north is pure Tibet. It is normal to descend to Camp 2 from summit and continue down.
