Return flight to Kathmandu and farewell dinner to conclude your Terai adventure.
Join us on a unique six-day wildlife safari into the heart of Nepal’s Terai at Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. This pristine floodplain area, ranging from 75 m/246 ft to 81 m/266 ft in elevation, is Nepal’s earliest Ramsar-designated site and a renowned haven for bird watchers, wetland wildlife and river-bank ecosystems.
Your journey begins in Kathmandu with a smooth transfer to your hotel for the night. Early next morning you take a short 45-minute flight to Biratnagar, followed by a scenic 1½-hour drive into the reserve. Upon arrival you’ll be welcomed by our experienced naturalist who will outline your itinerary amidst the tall reeds, marshes and shallow flood-waters of Koshi.
Day 3 offers you your first full day of safari: at dawn you’ll set out for bird-watching along the river-banks and marshes, seeking elusive species like bitterns, crakes and the nocturnal fishing-cat. A guided walk from the camp to Kusaha draws you into Indian-rosewood woodland, cattail reeds and wader-filled shallow lakes. Day 4 continues with a rubber-boat ride along the Koshi River, where you watch for wild water buffaloes, raptors circling the gorge and rare swamp-francolin stepping among the sand-banks.
After returning to camp and enjoying an evening recap, Day 5 begins with a final morning of bird-watching before driving back to Biratnagar for your flight to Kathmandu. The programme ends on Day 6 with departure transfer to the international airport.
This safari is perfect for nature-lovers, bird-ers and those seeking a short yet deeply immersive wildlife experience in Nepal’s lowland wetlands. Comfortable camp accommodation, expert guides and two full days of wildlife activity make this a memorable and manageable Terai escape.
