The Upper Mustang Trek is one of the most culturally unique and geographically distinct trekking experiences in Nepal. Located in the rain-shadow of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, this region resembles the Tibetan plateau more than the green hills of Nepal.Once a restricted kingdom until 1992, Upper Mustang still preserves its ancient Tibetan Buddhist culture, centuries-old monasteries, cave dwellings, and walled city traditions. The capital, Lo Manthang, is a historical fortress city surrounded by barren cliffs and desert-like landscapes.Unlike other Himalayan treks, the scenery here is dry, windy, and dramatic, with red cliffs, deep canyons, and high-altitude deserts. The region is rich in culture, spirituality, and history, offering a rare glimpse into an untouched Himalayan civilization. This trek also includes sacred pilgrimage sites like Muktinath, beautiful mountain flights to Jomsom, and cultural villages scattered across Mustang’s rugged terrain.
